164 citations written in Hands Across the Border effort

Combined efforts of police in Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia resulted in DUI arrests and at least 164 citations in a two-hour period Thursday evening before the holiday weekend even started.

Gathered at the Tennessee Welcome Center on Interstate 75 Friday morning, officers with the Tennessee Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Georgia State Patrol, Tennessee Highway Patrol and local law enforcement reminded the public of the consequences of unsafe driving choices.

“We are sick and tired of picking up dead bodies off of our roadways,” said Collegedale police Chief Brian Hickman.

The chief, surrounded by police who’d worked the “Hands Across the Border” campaign Thursday night, pointed at basic problems that lead to road fatalities.
