If you’re looking for a Memorial Day weekend filled with mud wrestling, pig calling, seed spitting, wild game eating and lots of music, there’s a new festival just for you.
The first Hillbilly Olympic Games, a family event encompassing food, fun and music, will be held Saturday through Monday at Ketner’s Mill in Whitwell, Tenn.
“For $5 a day,” said organizer Joe Owens, “you just can’t go wrong.”
He said the event is not connected to the annual Ketner’s Mill Country Fair held at the same site in the fall but is patterned after parts of other festivals such as Hillbilly Days in Pikeville, Ky., Summer Redneck Days in East Dublin, Ga., and the former Hillbilly Olympics in Gadsden, Ala.
Owens said the alcohol-free games, in the planning stages for several months, will focus on “good times, absolute madness and laughter.”
