MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Joey Glisson has had his share of misses over the years. He had missed extra points and field goals in football. Missed open opportunities to score in soccer.
In Boyd-Buchanan’s penalty-kick victory over Christ Presbyterian Academy in the Class A/AA semifinals, Glisson’s attempt was stopped by the goalkeeper.
But Friday, with a chance to seal the Buccaneers’ state championship game against hometown rival Chattanooga Christian, Glisson stepped up.
Tournament MVP Jake Lockert had 10 key saves — plus another in the shootout — and Glisson connected on the Bucs’ fifth PK, giving Boyd-Buchanan the Class A/AA state championship after a scoreless game.
“Any miss is hard, no matter the outcome,” Glisson said. “You just have to approach it the same and hope for something different. The goalkeeper chose the wrong way, and I was fortunate enough that the ball went in.”
