Grace tries again

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Although it didn’t get the job done Friday, Grace Academy’s softball team still has a chance to win the school’s first TSSAA state championship of any kind.

Trinity Christian defeated the Lady Golden Eagles 3-0 at Starplex No. 4 in the first game of the Class A final.

Because Grace (33-7) won when the teams played each other in their tournament opener, Trinity Christian (48-2) had to battle back through the losers bracket. The run the Lady Lions gave up in the eighth inning in that game is they only run they’ve allowed in the tournament.

Today’s championship game is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. EDT.

Grace pitcher Lacye Walker was one strike away from getting out of the bottom of the first inning unscathed Friday when Haley Elliott drove a pitch over the center-field fence. The score stayed that way until the sixth, when Amy Johnson’s and Natalie Nelson’s RBI singles became the third and fourth hits Walker gave up.
