It could be next May before work is completed on Cloud Springs Road, a state Department of Transportation spokeswoman says.
District spokeswoman Teri Pope said the Georgia Department of Transportation is negotiating with its contractor to push the completion back from November to May 2011.
“We knew it wasn’t going to be done overnight,” Catoosa County Commissioner Ken Marks said of the project, which began in 2007. “We can’t speed the state up.”
The delay means the orange barrels and lane shifts will remain in place through the opening of a Costco Wholesale warehouse club, which is set to open at Cloud Springs and Interstate 75 in September.
Mr. Marks said traffic always had been bad on Cloud Springs, also called state Route 146, and shoppers heading to Costco won’t help.
