Lady Mocs beats Lee in exhibition

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s basketball team got off to a fast start in its exhibition game Thursday afternoon against Lee University and held off a late push for an 65-49 win.

The Lady Mocs dominated the opening half, scoring the game’s first 16 points, and led the Flames 41-19 at halftime of the exhibition doubleheader at McKenzie Arena. The UTC men host Tennessee Wesleyan at 8 tonight.

Lee cut the margin to 58-44 with 5:49 to play, doing so primarily against UTC’s backups, but the Lady Mocs were able to stop the surge.

Lee’s Brooke McKinnon led all scorers with 23 points.

Junior forward Whitney Hood, the Clemson transfer who sat out last season and is the younger sister of former Moc Ricky Hood, led UTC with 20 points and eight rebounds.
