Franklin plane crash victims ID’d

Two victims of a Friday morning airplane crash in Franklin County have been identified.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Tim Fuller, Robert and Sarah Bean, of Daytona, Fla., died Friday when their experimental single-engine aircraft crashed on Keith Springs Mountain.

Fuller said the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department received a call from the Federal Aviation Administration at 9:44 a.m. Friday to alert them an airplane could be down.

Rescue teams converged on the area with helicopters. Fuller said an hour after the search the aircraft was found.

Fuller said the FAA would be conducting an investigation to determine what caused the accident.

He added the couple had been flying from Orange County, Fla., to Iowa City, Iowa, with another airplane.

Fuller said the pilot of the other craft, who wasn’t identified, saw the other plane go down. The pilot made an emergency landing at a North Alabama airport to alert the FAA.
