ObamaCare bites hand that fed it

In an announcement rich with irony, AARP — which loudly promoted Obama-Care socialized medicine’s narrow passage by Congress — says the new law is raising its own employees’ insurance costs.

AARP, a lobbying organization for senior citizens, used its clout with seniors to give cover to Democrats in Congress to pass ObamaCare.

So it is remarkable that AARP now admits the law will raise costs for its 4,500 employees and their dependents who are covered by AARP’s own insurance plans. Premiums will jump as much as 13 percent next year, the organization told its employees.

It said part of that increase is from general medical inflation, but it admitted part of it is directly attributable to ObamaCare.

What’s more, AARP said it is having to adjust its deductibles and co-payments to avoid a massive 40 percent ObamaCare tax on insurance plans that the government considers too costly.

And “AARP warned its employees that more cost-shifting could be in store” because of ObamaCare, The Associated Press reported. The Obama administration and Democrats in Congress have reacted furiously when other companies have said ObamaCare may cost them (and thus their employees) billions of dollars. One Democrat in Congress even demanded that the companies’ CEOs explain themselves in a congressional committee meeting — but later canceled the hearing when it became obvious the companies were telling the truth.

It should be interesting to see how Democrats dismiss the cost concerns of AARP, an organization that strongly and unwisely endorsed ObamaCare — and is now paying the price.
