If Auburn and Georgia keep piling up the points Saturday afternoon at Jordan-Hare Stadium, kickoffs will be in abundance.
Which could lead to even more scoring.
Georgia junior cornerback Brandon Boykin and Auburn senior cornerback Demond Washington set kickoff-return records last season and are sizzling again this year. Boykin leads the Southeastern Conference with 28.6 yards a return, highlighted by a 100-yard touchdown Oct. 23 at Kentucky, while Washington ranks third at 26.9 yards a pop and had a 95-yard score Oct. 30 at Ole Miss.
“I think it will be huge,” Auburn coach Gene Chizik said of the impact kickoff returns could have Saturday. “Obviously Boykin is really good in the return game, and they are really good at blocking it. He has one return for a touchdown and three or four others that were really close to breaking, so that’s going to be a huge challenge for our football team in terms of field-position issues and game-planning and whether we’re going to kick to him or not.
“We’ve had some success as a return unit this year, so both of those are going to be huge parts of the puzzle this week.”
