Court date for 2 postponed

The court date for Steven Hughley and his son, Steven Hughley Jr., was rescheduled in Hamilton County Criminal Court on Thursday.

The date was moved to Jan. 11, 2011, according to court records.

Hughley, 44, was arrested in February on the charge of statutory rape by an authority figure. A former teacher at Brainerd High School, he is accused of having sexual contact with a 17-year-old female student.

Hughley Jr., 18, was arrested by police in July on several robbery charges. Police say he and his 21-year-old cousin, Christopher Coleman, robbed a Taco Bell, Zaxby’s, Papa John’s and some check-cashing locations over a two-month period.

The father-son pair was scheduled to appear before Judge Rebecca Stern on Thursday. Both are being represented by local attorney Jack Benson.

Homicide case reset for Dec. 2

The case of a man who was scheduled to be tried on criminal homicide and other charges Thursday has been moved.

Tyrone Sivels, 22, is to appear in court Dec. 2, according to court records. Other charges he will face include especially aggravated robbery, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

The charges stem from a 2008 armed robbery in which one of the victims died.

Willie Armstrong, Curtis Bates and Rodney Lomenick, the person who died, were in a duplex when two men entered the home and robbed them, police said. After the robbery, the robbers returned and shot Lomenick and Armstrong in the face and beat Bates.

It was unclear Thursday if police had apprehended other suspects in the robbery.
