An exciting cruise

Luxurious cruise ships, large and small, are popular in oceans and seas all over the world these days. But one ship this week had more excitement than was planned.

A Carnival ship, the Splendor, sailed out of Southern California, offering unlimited luxuries, exotic food and varied entertainment.

There were 3,300 passengers, with a crew of 1,100 serving them.

But an engine fire disabled the ship last Monday, leaving it dark, with neither hot water nor air conditioning, off the Pacific Coast of Mexico.

Danger fortunately was averted, but the ship was adrift off the coast of Mexico until it could be towed to harbor, with the crew being put up at a San Diego hotel – and given some spending money. Passengers were offered a refund and a free future cruise.

People usually love to tell all about their vacation experiences. These passengers have an usual tale of cold water and Spam, and something less than “splendor.” But they had a real-life adventure to talk about when they returned to their homes.
