Q&A: James Trimble

Chattanooga Times Free Press entertainment reporter Casey Phillips spoke with James Trimble, lead singer of Knoxville’s Dirty Guv’nah’s, about why the band is taking things more seriously these days, their experience recording in Levon Helm’s studio in Woodstock, N.Y., and taking it to the next level.

CP: When were the Guvs last in Chattanooga?

JT: It’s been a long time. I can’t say with complete certainty, but I think it was about a year and a half ago. We were playing down at the Midtown Music Hall a few times and didn’t have another date scheduled. We’re glad to be back.

CP: When you guys got started off, the band was sort of a joke. Now, you’ve been together for four years. How serious is it now?

JT: It’s very, very serious. There’s no joking anymore. When you play as many shows as we’re playing now and do as much traveling as we’re doing and have recorded two albums, we’re more serious than ever. We’re ready to take it to the next step.
