McLemore Cove event aids Four Points

LAFAYETTE, Ga. — A two-day holiday happening this weekend in Walker County will boost an organization that supports families affected by domestic violence.

Visitors to the second annual Christmas in the Cove can visit an arts and antiques show, see crafts and hear music at Mountain Cove Farms in McLemore Cove, nestled between Lookout and Pigeon mountains in southwestern Walker County.

The event benefits Four Points Inc., which provides recuperative and preventive services for families affected by domestic violence. Based in LaFayette, it serves families in Walker, Dade, Catoosa and Chattooga counties, as well as in Southeast Tennessee and Northeast Alabama.

The weekend will call on memories from years past when handmade items were a staple, not a novelty, and baking was a daily event, Four Points Executive Director Melissa Gifford said. Visitors can get a healthy jump on their Christmas shopping, she said.

“We had a really good response last year,” Gifford said. “We have more vendors this year and a more diverse group of vendors. It’s an event we hope will become a tradition.”

The event will be held at the Mountain Cove Farms show barn, 994 Dougherty Gap Road in Chickamauga, Ga.

On Saturday, patrons can enjoy arts, crafts and food from more than 20 vendors, participate in a baking and candy contest and see Santa Claus. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $2 per person and free for children 12 and younger.

Cindy Caheely and her husband, Steve, own the Ivy Cottage restaurant in LaFayette and rent out the barn, a house and three cottages at Mountain Cove Farms for special events.

She said visitors to Mountain Cove Farms have a special holiday treat in store, with an “eclectic mix” certain to brighten their Christmas spirits.

“People should expect a nice mixture of goodies,” she said. “It’s beautiful over there right now, and the colors are just stunning.”
