Retired Communist Cuban dictator Fidel Castro may have handed over most of his power to his brother Raul Castro, but he can still be relied upon to make absurd statements about America.
Recently, Fidel Castro weighed in on U.S. politics by blasting the “tea party” movement. The tea party, it should be noted, is not a formal political party. It is mainly just a grouping of patriotic Americans who have grave (and justified) concerns about the direction our nation is taking. Congress’ reckless spending is one of the “tea partiers'” top concerns.
Anyway, Castro was speaking to some visitors to his repressive nation when he took a number of ridiculous and gratuitous swipes at the tea party. It is putting America “on a road toward fascism,” he declared, according to news accounts. The party represents the “extreme right,” Castro added.
Well, we know that opinions of the tea party vary among the American people. But whatever you make of the tea party movement and its supporters, the fact that a dictator such as Castro is attacking that movement is, if anything, a reason to believe the tea party is a force for good.
If Castro wants to find someone whose behavior deserves condemnation, he need look no farther than the nearest mirror.
