If a person donated money to two groups that took opposite positions on an important public policy, you’d likely question his logic, or at least his judgment.
But that is exactly what the federal government is doing – and you are paying the bill for it!
A federal agency used tax dollars last year to help Domino’s Pizza develop and market new pizzas that have lots more cheese.
It’s bad enough that the government intruded that way in the free market rather than letting pizzerias compete for customers in the usual way. But the U.S. Department of Agriculture – which oversees the agency that helped out Domino’s – also uses your tax dollars to fund “a federal anti-obesity drive that discourages over-consumption” of the very types of foods that the government is developing and promoting, The New York Times reported.
That doesn’t make sense, but neither do so many of the things in which Washington meddles.
We wish no ill to pizza makers. We also wish everyone would eat healthfully.
But should the American people be forced to underwrite – simultaneously – both the development of a particular food and warnings against eating that food?
With this kind of nonsense going on in Washington, it’s no surprise that so many Americans are realizing the federal government has gotten out of control with its wasteful and irrational spending. Shouldn’t we put the brakes on Washington before it can do still more harm to our economy and to our nation in general?
