The Rev. Jackson’s SUV

For better or worse, “timing is everything.”

And it was certainly odd “timing” when the Rev. Jesse Jackson was in Detroit recently to promote environmentally friendly “green jobs” – and his gas-guzzling SUV went missing.

News accounts say the rented 2009 Cadillac Escalade was stolen and stripped of its wheels before being abandoned.

Ironically, Jackson had recently written for CNN.com that America needed to get “serious about energy savings and independence from oil.”

We do not begrudge Jackson his choice of automobile – rented or owned. We are sure he enjoyed a comfortable ride in the luxurious Escalade.

But if he really believes that the rest of the American people should be more “serious” about reducing our dependence on oil, shouldn’t he lead by example?
