Editor’s note: “Get Off the Couch” is a new Monday feature. Let Lisa Denton and Barry Courter of the Life staff jump-start your week with a lively preview of local happenings from fyi.timesfreepress.com. (See Lisa McLeod’s column Thursdays in Life.)
BARRY COURTER: Lisa, every week you and I get to look ahead to the area entertainment schedule and figure out which events need to be highlighted in FYI Weekend. Now, we’ve been asked to let people know which ones are likely to actually get us off the couch. I won’t speak for you, but do you think I look like I spend a lot of time on the couch? Don’t answer that.
LISA DENTON: Hey, I cherish my couch time too. And I was a little upset the other night when I found Bruno, the bloodhound, curled up in my favorite spot. I can’t say I do something worthwhile every night after work, but I’m always glad when I find something to do before I go home to my jammies.
BARRY: You know, you and Bruno could probably find a “yappie” hour somewhere. The key, at least for me, is not going home first, and fortunately there is so much to do, especially this week. Just looking at the RiverRocks schedule is pretty amazing. I’m thinking the Grande Finale on Saturday will be worth seeing. Fitz and the Tantrums will be playing, and the environmentally correct light show (still not exactly sure what that means) should be cool.
LISA: RiverRocks really does call attention to all the cool stuff the Chattanooga area has to offer. I liked how they included things for all levels of interests, from hard-core athletes to people just thinking about venturing into the great outdoors. And both weekends were/are jam-packed. I didn’t spring for a hot-air balloon ride this past weekend, but I did get to do that once and loved it. Even if we almost landed on I-75. Luckily, another blast of hot air (the balloon wrangler’s, not mine) got us to safety on the lawn of the Georgia Welcome Center. So if that option comes around again, I highly recommend it.
BARRY: RiverRocks thought about us stationary athletes, and I appreciate that. Oh hey, I see Chickstock is this week. I’d do that … Wait, what do you mean it’s about preserving Chickamauga Creek?
