Beckman backs Robertson

Editor,

Please join me in voting for my friend, Susan Robertson, for Town Council. I have known Susan for years and I trust her to be a faithful and dedicated steward of our town. Susan has served on the Town Council for almost 4 years now and has worked with the other members to keep our community one in which we can all take pride.

While other small communities around the Chattanooga area have struggled with the most basic of issues and to stay fiscally solvent, our current council has maintained a balanced budget in hard economic times without raising taxes, cutting services or furloughing employees. On top of that, the $7.3 million debt incurred by the town to build our wonderful new Middle/High School has been paid down to $4.2 million. This Council has also addressed critical issues of deferred maintenance in the town.

Because she believes that all members of our community need to be informed and involved in our town government, Susan created Council Notes which she writes every week. She serves the Council and the community on the Historical Committee, the Tree Board, the Personnel Committee and the Design Review Commission.

Susan has the experience and the dedication that are needed to continue to make our town a place in which we all love to live. I have lived on Signal Mountain for over 50 years and have seen many changes in our community. Change and growth are good – we just need to make sure that we have the right people in our government to oversee what lies ahead. Susan Robertson is one of those people and I am proud to vote for her!

Robertson seeks re-election

Editor,

I’ve lived on Signal Mountain 34 years. I taught at Signal Mountain Junior High, and I reared my family here. This is my home. That’s why I’ve chosen to serve as a member of the town council for almost 4 years.

Our council has worked with the community to accomplish a new Land Use Plan and the re-development of the former SMMS property with a public track. We’ve balanced four budgets without increasing taxes or cutting services and reduced the school debt significantly.

Individually, I’ve represented the council by writing Council Notes to keep the community informed. I’ve served on the Personnel Committee to reduce costly employee turnover. I’ve served on the Historical Committee and represented the council on the Design Review Commission. I worked with citizens to create the Tree Board, which will result in the town’s upcoming designation as a Tree City USA.

Although our council has accomplished much, there are projects to complete such as repair/replacement of the road up the mountain, subdivision regulations, commercial design standards, and more. That’s why I am running for re-election. I want to bring my experience to the next council along with my commitment to continue to listen to you and keep you involved.
