Mount Carmel Baptist Church is cranking up a full schedule of October events with free admission to the 2010 Fall Cruise-in Oct. 10 from 3 to 7 p.m. Custom hot rods, antique cars and motorcycles will line the church parking lot while singer Teresa Camp and Mountain Cove Band serenade attendees who can sample hot dogs and soft drinks.

“It’s going to be an opportunity for car enthusiasts to come and park and let people look at their cars,” said the Rev. Steven Granger, of MCBC. “We’ve had close to 100 cars and motorcycles in the past. Some cars are simple, but others display tremendous time and money invested. It’s really entertaining and impressive to see cars that will be here.”

Prizes will be awarded.

A special area will be reserved for cars in progress, so that people working on projects can display cars too.

“We’ve had several cruise-ins in the past, but not for a few years,” Granger said. “We’ve had a lot of community members ask us to do it again.”

Children in the community are invited to sign up for Upward Basketball and Upward Cheerleading Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon in the church gym.

“We’ve had up to 80 kids sign up for Upward in the past,” said Granger. “This fall marks the church’s third year to host Upward.”

The third October event at Mount Carmel will be Discipleship University Oct. 17 at 6 p.m.

“It’s an approach to address discipleship needs in our church family and community,” Granger said. “I will lead a study titled Christianity, Cults and Religions. We will learn about major world religions and cults and how they compare to Christianity.”

The grand October finale will be a Trunk or Treat Oct. 31 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the church parking lot. Inflatables, candy, food, prizes and face painting will entertain children as adults raise their car trunks displaying candy for children to bag up and take home.

“Hosting events is a great way to offer positive opportunities to interact with the community and meet needs there,” Granger said.
