Today’s date is a once-a-century occurrence: The date 10/10/10 only comes around every 100 years.
The last time it happened, William Howard Taft was president. On this century’s triple 10, the Chicago Marathon is today and a group called One Day on Earth is trying to film a 24-hour documentary. If you can’t participate in either of those, here is a list of 10 ways to celebrate the oddity on the calendar.
Top 10 ways to celebrate 10/10/10:
Take it easy: A 10-10 in Tennessee police radio code means out of service.
Wear a Chipper jersey: Braves third basemen Chipper Jones and his father, Larry Jones Sr., own the Double Dime Ranch in Texas in honor of their two uniform numbers, 10 and 10.
Buy a lottery ticket: If you win, you can split the winnings with everyone else who had the idea to use 10-10-10.
Stick a landing: In honor of Mary Lou Retton, who in 1984 became the first American to win an Olympic gold medal in gymnastics with a score of 10-10-10.
Do something 42 times: In binary code, 101010 represents the number 42.
Plant something: Particularly something that needs 10-10-10 fertilizer.
Watch a movie: Nominations include “10 Things I Hate About You,” “10” and “Tin Cup.”
Follow (or break) all 10 Commandments.
Go digital: As in counting your digits. Usually there are 10 fingers and 10 toes.
Win a poker game: Combine 10 10 10 with a pair of jacks and you have a full house, and probably a winning hand.
