List disappointed with week

Luke List’s week couldn’t have started much better.

The former Baylor School and Vanderbilt star shot an opening round 6-under-par 66 and had thoughts of contending on Sunday.

But he followed Thursday with a 73 on Friday, a 70 on Saturday and a 69 on Sunday to tie for 33rd at 10-under.

“I had a good time but it’s a huge disappointment,” List said. “I made way too many mistakes to contend out here. I’m not out here to finish 29th or 30th, especially here at home.”

List heads into the two final regular-season events No. 76 on the Nationwide tour money list. The top 60 will play in the tour championship and he’s about $18,000 away from that spot.

“I drove it well, hit a few good iron shots and found something in my putting,” List said. “I’ll take away some good things, but this was a huge disappointment.

“Now I have to focus on Miami next week.”

Big Pairing

There’s no doubt which Sunday pairing would be the betting favorite in a bar-brawl or shot-putting contest.

Colt Knost, at a chiseled 215 pounds, played with 235-pound Jason Gore who looks like an NFL tight end, on Sunday in what Gore called a very fun round.

“It was like a father-son match because he calls me Dad, and he looks like he could be my son,” Gore said. “We tried to figure out what our best-ball score was and I think we shot 14 under. So if nothing else, I think I found a best-ball partner.”

Gamble doesn’t pay

Ryan Armour figured he needed to birdie the last hole to reach 18 under or eagle it to get to 19-under while playing two groups ahead of the leaders.

So he went for the green in two and came up short. Out of a bad lie, he lined his chip off a rock into a hazard eliminating the possibility of a birdie.

He walked off the green, cussed out loud, and signed for a triple bogey on No 18.

“I think he tried to do too much,” said his competitor, Daniel Summerhays. “But I can understand why he tried to do it. I’ve been there.”
