Water main break closes two Walker County schools

Stone Creek Elementary and Rossville Elementary schools are closed today due to a major water line break nearby, Walker County Schools officials said.

Superintendent Melissa Mathis said repairs on the broken water main are expected to take six to seven hours. Officials decided to call off classes for the day at the two schools.

Teachers have the option of reporting to school but students are to stay home, Mathis said. No other schools were affected.

The state Department of Education will be notified of the closure and a make up day will be scheduled, she said.
