Fredi Gonzalez became the Atlanta Braves’ 16th manager since the club moved to town in 1966. Gonzalez, who will wear No. 33, signed a three-year contract with a club option for a fourth season.
Gonzalez replaces Bobby Cox and will name his coaching staff at a later date.
“Today we are excited and proud to announce Fredi Gonzalez as our manager,” executive vice president and general manager Frank Wren was quoted in a press release. “Fredi brings a wealth of experience and great enthusiasm to this job, and that is essential for a club that continues to have expectations of playing in October.”
Gonzalez went 276-279 with the Marlins, including 34-36 in 2010.
