During Hamilton County Commission comments this morning, Greg Beck spoke for several minutes about his outrage at the recent slaying of local pastor David Strong, and he urged commissioners and parents to do more to prevent these sorts of things from happening.
“I’m not at a point of frustration,” Beck said. “I’m at a point of motivation.”
Beck said schools should do a better job of notifying officials about students with the potential to take paths that could lead them to commit crimes such as the killing of Strong.
“Everybody’s got a thing they’e supposed to be doing,” Beck said after the meeting, saying his speech was spontaneous. “We need to enhance that.”
The speech resonated with his fellow commissioners.
Chairman Fred Skillern said the commission agrees with Beck.
“This is not the first eloquent speech you’ve made to us,” Skillern said, adding later. “Like you said, the people have to to take charge.”
In other business, commissioners talked about a $6.6 million interlocal agreement that would improve rail service to the Volkswagen plant site, $2.2 million of which would come from county money set aside for VW projects, Administrator of Finance Louis Wright said.
