The head of the Tennessee Army National Guard will present a local World War II Medal of Honor recipient with a special flag, honoring his valor in the war.
U.S. Army Sgt. Charles H. Coolidge, of Signal Mountain, will receive the Medal of Honor flag Friday at 11 a.m. in Coolidge Park. Maj. Gen. Max Haston is scheduled to present the award, according to a Guard release.
The flag was created in 2002 to again recognize recipients of the Medal of Honor, the highest honor for valor awarded to those serving in the U.S. military.
Coolidge was awarded the medal on July 1, 1945, for gallantry while serving in Belmont sur Buttant, France, from Oct. 24-27, 1944.
