An artist who can’t use his hands and a horse named Tinkerbell will help kids understand disabilities this weekend at the Creative Discovery Museum, 321 Chestnut St.
Today, artist Rick Gadbury will demonstrate how he finds ways to enjoy painting without the use of his hands.
Saturday, kids will meet Tinkerbell, the therapy horse, Speedy, a dog who uses special equipment for its needs, and animals from the Goodwill Assistance Dog Academy, according to a news release.
Children will have an opportunity to ask questions about how people with disabilities live productive, active lives. The guests will be available between noon and 4 p.m.
The event is part of the “Kids Like You, Kids Like Me” exhibit, a partnership between the museum and Siskin Children’s Institute.
“We focus on ‘ability’ in the word disability,” said Amy Barrett, museum experience manager over staffing and programs. “We take this time to celebrate people’s differences and break down the barriers that might arise when kids aren’t familiar with how to interact with a person who has a disability.”
Activities are free with regular admission of $10.95. For information, visit www.cdmfun.org.
