Dry weather and local fires

Our area is being plagued this season by wildfires as there has not been much recent rainfall. Chattanooga has had just 1.25 inches of rain since Sept. 1, and is 13.42 inches below “average” rainfall for the year.

In our area, we have plenty of water to drink, bathe and water our yards, with Chickamauga Lake and the Tennessee River flowing. But unusually dry weather has made it easy for accidental woods fires to catch on, burning large areas on Walden’s Ridge, for example.

Showers are predicted next week. We hope they will solve the brush-fire problem.
