Glasscock secured funds for dog park
We really enjoy the new Red Bank dog park located in the White Oak park.
I found out how we got it and wanted to let everyone else know. Mayor Joe Glasscock asked for and received funding of $20,000 for the park from a Hamilton County commissioner’s discretionary money fund.
The park is a credit and a big asset to our great city of Red Bank and to Mayor Glasscock. Let’s keep a good man who is always working to improve our city in office. I am proud to live in Red Bank.

Elect Wood in District 28
Chattanooga needs Teresa Wood as state representative, District 28.
She is a very honest and enthusiastic lady. As a political conservative, she will represent us well in Nashville. As a fiscal conservative, she will spend our tax dollars wisely.
She has never backed away from her convictions. The most outstanding quality of Teresa Wood is that she is real. What you see and hear is what you get. She is very clear when expressing her opinions, not mincing words to impress others.
If we in district 28 want true representation in our great capital, elect Teresa Wood, state representative.

Did Obama want to bury America?
When Obama spoke of a “shovel ready” project, we should have realized he was thinking like Nikita Khrushchev and intended to bury America.

Vote for anybody but Fleischmann
For months, voters in the 3rd District watched a trial lawyer talk about being a small-business man and representing “the little guy.” He falsely accused his primary opponent of mishandling money with his TV commercials instead of talking issues. He won by about two votes per precinct trumpeting his “grassroots campaign.”
Chuck Fleischmann is daily proving he cannot tell the truth. His “grassroots campaign” was putting over $1.3 million in his own campaign and spending $1.6 million in his primary race. Now I know why you’re hiding, Chuck.
Voters, if we don’t wake up and vote for anybody but Chuck, we will have allowed this trial lawyer to buy this seat for his personal ambition through lying. We shouldn’t want only millionaires to get elected.

Common person needs protection
The recent news that banks have not properly handled the paperwork for foreclosures illustrates why we need the government to help the little person.
Could any common person afford to hire an accountant to search the records of their bank foreclosing on their mortgage? How could they afford a lawyer to sue the bank and stop their effort? Despite some people’s attacking it, we need government to protect us from businesses that don’t care about how they treat us.
Some people blame the Democratic administration for the economic downturn, which started in 2007. A bipartisan Congress passed the bank bailouts, which were signed by George W. Bush in 2008. Unless you ignore facts for partisan purposes, you must carefully look at what the Republicans, tea party and conservative talking heads say. This is the most partisan election in 60 years, and partisanship is caused by exaggeration, distortion of facts and outright lies.
Don’t trust the mainstream media or Fox News; turn to PBS and NPR, which give both sides to the story without partisan yelling and put-downs. News from Canada, Britain, other European and South American countries over the Internet allows you to learn from people uninvolved in our conflict.

Penney’s integrity makes him a leader
I am writing regarding Jack Penney running for city commissioner of Soddy-Daisy.
Mr. Penney maintains a set of standards that is well-known in the Soddy-Daisy area. As an ethical man with integrity, he will represent the best interests of Soddy-Daisy. He will empower the people with his representation and lead in the direction that the people want our community to go.
He echoes the concerns that so many of us have – promises kept, someone who will listen to his constituents’ concerns and address them, make our community one in which we are glad to raise our families, and will actively seek for availability of jobs in our community.
This is not Jackie Penney’s first time to be a leader in our community and give back from his expertise. He has coached your children with integrity and compassion. He has shown he cares about the people and the interests of Soddy-Daisy. I encourage the residents to vote Jackie Penney for commissioner.

Republicans’ plans are scary
Republicans are running on a platform of reducing federal spending. But how well did they live up to their promises in the past? Under G.W. Bush, federal spending increased 83 percent (10.4 percent annually); under Clinton, the increase was 32 percent (4 percent annually); under Obama, an 8.8 percent increase (4.4 percent annually).
What did we get for Mr. Bush’s and the Republicans’ spending? Did they repair or modernize our crumbling infrastructure? Increase money for job training, medical research and science, veterans’ programs? No, they decreased all those programs, programs that actually help Americans.
Decrease the national debt? No, it was $5.638 trillion when Bush took office and $10.6 trillion when he left.
What the Republicans did spend money on was tax cuts for the wealthy and two wars. The Bush tax cuts added at least $2.5 trillion to the deficit and investment in foreign companies increased, while investment in America decreased. That’s their economic plan again – giving people who make over $1 million annually tax cuts of more than $100,000 and adding $70 billion a year to the deficit.
Rep. John Boehner recently said, “We’re not going to be any different than what we’ve been.” That I believe, and that’s what scares me.

Check ‘Pig Book’ to view waste
“Money spigot dry with Chickamauga lock project half done” (news story, Oct. 18).
Now wouldn’t that frost you, especially when 17 projects by the Senate CIS Appropriations Subcommittee in 2009 got $32,950,000, that’s million dollars.
Included was $7,100,000 for NOAA for the conservation and recovery of endangered Hawaiian sea turtle populations. Need I say more.
If you would like to see more, a lot more of this nonsense by the Congress, please go to the website for Citizens Against Government Waste … CAGW.org. The Pig Book will help you see what goes on in Washington.
