A two-story home on Mowbray Mountain was destroyed by fire this morning.
No one was at home during the blaze, so firefighters fought it defensively to keep it from spreading, said Amy Maxwell, a spokeswoman for Hamilton County Emergency Services.
A neighbor called police about the fire at 1226 Montlake Road at 11:24 a.m., Maxwell said.
“It took us a while to the get the fire under control,” said Johnathan Peterson, chief of the Mowbray Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. “The nearest fire hydrant was a mile away.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The American Red Cross is helping the homeowners find temporary housing.
