Monday through Friday at 2 p.m., Times Free Press Sports Editor Jay Greeson offers his 2:00 drill – a quick look at what’s happening right now and what’s on tap for tonight in the world of sports. Check back tomorrow morning for five at 10.
Giant Lead
Game 2 of the World Series is tonight (8 p.m. Fox). After blitzing Cliff Lee and the Texas Rangers, the San Francisco Giants have to be feeling good. In some ways they remind me of the Cleveland Indians from the “Major League” movie – especially when you look at their roster and wonder, “Who are these guys?”
ACC title/pillow fight
In a year when the preseason conference favorite lost to an FCS team, the Atlantic Coast Conference has been somewhat disappointing. Yes Virginia Tech has rebounded from that Week 2 loss to James Madison, but still. Tonight, resurgent Florida State and N.C. State play (7:45 p.m., ESPN) in a matchup of two of the best teams in the league. FSU is young and athletic; N.C. State has dynamic quarterback Russell Wilson.
Busy weekend at Finley starts tonight
Merrill Eckstein and the crew at Finley Stadium better make sure there are fresh towels in the lavatories – they got some company coming over. Copper Basin plays Boyd-Buchanan at Finley tonight. Brainerd faces Tyner there on Friday night, and the Mocs are home this weekend against Elon. I may head over, grab a seat and come home Sunday morning.
