Rams win with second-half effort

Tyner football coach Wayne Turner has added quite a bit to his reputation as a lecturer during the last few weeks of the regular season. As he gathered his Rams at midfield Friday night at Finley Stadium following a wild and sometimes wooly 40-32 District 6-AA victory over Brainerd, Turner’s closing words were pretty simple.

“That’s the last of those. No more. If we play like that again, we’re done,” Turner told them. “There are no more guarantees for us. Either we play to our ability and stop playing to the other team’s level, or we can call it a season.”

The Rams’ roller-coaster regular-season ride ended with a stern second-half stand that limited the determined Panthers to 14 rushing yards in the final 30 minutes after the combination of Corey Wiley and William Hughes ran roughshod in the opening two quarters.
