Xtreme tailgatingSmoking a whole pig. Hauling in 30 tons of sand for a luau. The Mocs Nation is serious about tailgating food and fun

Brian Millican, part of the Chamberlain Tailgaters, wore team colors to the Mocs game.

Hostesses for the luau bought matching pineapple-print shirts for the occasion. From left are Christine Daniels, Alison Dyer, Donna Broyles, Jamie Harvey and Angel Thompson.

When the Mocs played Jacksonville State in the home opener football game, Paul Schoner and Rob Varner smoked this 65-pound pig in First Tennessee Pavilion, much to the delight of children who kept asking them to open the grill so they could take a peek.

Doug Dyer and friends had 30 tons of sand hauled to a parking lot near Finley Stadium to set up their luau-themed tailgating party. Although there are about 15 friends in the tailgating group, they fed 200 folks the day of the Mocs-Jacksonville State game.

Bill Wilcox with Holes to Go added to the Chamberlain Tailgaters' fun by bringing putt-putt golf to the party.

Paul Schoner, left, and Rob Varner man the 6-foot grill they tow to First Tennessee Pavilion on game days. Varner is making chicken and sausage paella. Varner and Chip Hassler founded the Chamberlain Tailgaters in 1989 when they would tailgate at the Mocs' old Chamberlain Field.
