Teacher in court today

A Sequoyah High School teacher will be in court today to determine if his bond can be lowered.

Stacy Swallows, 45, blocked the path of nine teenagers with his car and called police while holding them at gunpoint as they tried to leave Shipley Cemetery in Sale Creek on Saturday, according to police.

During a Tuesday hearing in Hamilton County General Sessions Court, Judge Robert Moon questioned if the charges of false imprisonment held merit.

“I am having real trouble connecting the dots between the affidavit and facts of this case on the charge of false imprisonment,” Moon said.

He did not hold back on his opinion of the teens’ conduct.

“Let me say this, there is absolutely no good reason for anybody to be in a cemetery at 10:30 at night unless they are digging a grave,” he said.

Swallows, a diesel mechanics teacher at the school, lives near the cemetery at 920 Shipley Cemetery Road.

Moon has scheduled the hearing for 1:30 p.m. today.
