CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The pageants, lawn mower races, demolition derby and junior rodeo all are back next week for the seventh Foothills Country Fair at the Tri-State Exhibition Center.
Fair visitors this year also will have an opportunity to help others, fair President Louie Alford said.
“This year we are working with The Caring Place’s food drive,” Alford said.
Fairgoers bring a can of food for The Caring Place and become eligible to win $500 in a final-day drawing. Cleveland Food Lion stores and Larry Hill Ford have entry forms, too, Alford said. Hill is donating the $500 prize money.
“The Caring Place is a Christian nonprofit organization whose mission is to address the basic physical, spiritual and social needs of the disadvantaged in Bradley County,” according to Director Reba Terry.
Also new this year are three dog races. Petco and PALS (Pets Are Lovable Society, an animal adoption service) are organizing the races, with the $5 per dog fee going to PALS.
Chihuahuas will run at 1 p.m. on Saturday and dachshunds at 6 p.m. On Sunday, other small dogs, such as Yorkshire terriers, and mixed breeds race at 1 p.m.
The Paradise Amusement Carnival returns and begins operating on Wednesday.
