Educational programs complement exhibits at the Hunter

The Hunter Museum of American Art isn’t exactly a glass house, but with the recent focus in glass art, stone throwing wouldn’t be the best idea there.

Current exhibitions “Transformation 6: Contemporary Works in Glass Art” and a featured exhibit by glass artist Steven Rolfe Powell are on display at the Hunter.

“We’ve focused so much on glass in the last couple of years because of our partnership with the (Tennessee) Aquarium and the ‘Jellies: Living Art’ exhibit, which has been so popular with both adults and children,” said the museum’s public relations manager, Katrina Craven.

The appreciation for glass art is giving way to two more events: a workshop and a lecture.

The Hunter is teaming up with Ignis Gallery to put on glass-blowing workshops. “They’ve been very popular,” said Craven.
