P Jordan Berry 6-5, 195, Fr.

The matchup: The strongest part of EKU’s defense is its secondary, led by former Red Bank High School star Caldwell. The Mocs will need to be more aggressive in their passing game than they were last week at Jacksonville State, when Coleman threw just six second-half passes. There’s some risk to challenging the EKU secondary, but the Mocs need to get the ball to their big-play receivers.

The matchup: The Colonels have allowed 14 sacks already this season, the most in the NCAA’s Football Championship Subdivision. The Mocs’ front four, especially ends Donald and Williams, need to attack the EKU offensive line and get to the quarterback. Passing has been the only productive part of EKU’s offense (226.5 yards per game), so if UTC can disrupt that, then the Colonels could be in trouble.

THE ONE TO WATCH

Erroll Wynn

After enduring a miserable, injury-plagued 2008 season and redshirting in 2009, Wynn played at Jacksonville State like a man eager to make a statement. The fifth-year senior had 13 carries for 98 yards, all in the second half. On fresh legs he ran hard, he didn’t hesitate before attacking a hole and he showed more nimbleness than he has since 2007. The Mocs need a running game, and Wynn appears determined to be its leader.

IN THE END

Breaking it down: The Mocs are something of a mystery because they’ve played very well in the first three quarters of their games but bombed in the fourth. The Colonels, meanwhile, have scored just 22 points in their two games but have been stingy on defense at times. One of these teams needs to put a complete game together, and the Mocs have been closer to doing that than the Colonels.

Prediction: UTC 31, EKU 17
