Man arrested in string of Alabama bank robberies

An Albertville man was arrested in connection with a string of bank robberies in several counties in Alabama.

Robert McKinzie, 25, faces charges of robbery first degree in DeKalb, Cherokee, Marshall and St. Clair counties, DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said in a news release.

Sheriff’s deputies believe McKinzie is responsible for a bank robbery at the Heritage First Bank in Crossville on June 5, he said.

McKinzie allegedly entered the bank and showed a knife to the teller and customers before taking several thousand dollars, Harris said. He fled in a white Nissan Maxima.

McKinzie was recently arrested in Cherokee County for a bank robbery at Leesburg and is currently in the Cherokee county jail under a $250,000 bond.

If anyone has additional information about robberies involving a knife, please contact the DeKalb County Sheriff’s office, Harris said.
