Baylor runners win Tennessee Classic

The Baylor School girls’ cross country team went to Percy Warner Park in Nashville and won the Gold Division of the Tennessee Classic over the weekend. The Lady Red Raiders’ final score of 69 points was nearly twice as good as the 136 of second-place Daviess County (Ky.).

Baylor senior Hannah Jumper – running her first local race since representing the United States in the Mountain Running Championships in Slovenia – finished second overall, running the five-kilometer event in 18 minutes, 45.98 seconds

Tenley Godfrey was fourth, and each of Baylor’s top seven finished in the top 35.

“Each athlete ran smart, relaxed and connected to her teammates,” Baylor coach Heather Ott said. “We executed almost exactly as we had planned.”

Bradley Central’s Paul Patterson finished 13th among the Gold Division boys in 16:53.89.

GPS’s Johanna Gartman took third in the Silver Division, with McMinn Central’s Dianna Eddington seventh, Notre Dame’s Alex Mullin 12th and Baylor’s Caitlin Duggan 14th. Notre Dame’s girls took fifth and GPS was sixth in team competition.

Baylor’s Simon Holden was third in the Silver Division boys’ race, while teammate Houston Massey finished 18th, helping the Red Raiders win the team title. Chattanooga Christian’s Cameron Anderson was 15th.

Raiders win in Memphis
