Ice on the rise

It’s been a hot summer but local lawmen still are finding a lot of ice.

The crystallized methamphetamine nicknamed “ice” is on the rise in North Georgia and Southeast Tennessee, said U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique Nieves.

“We’re seeing an increase in ice, regardless of what type it is,” said Nieves, who works out of the DEA’s Chattanooga office.

Ice – which is imported from Mexico – works in a supply-and- demand wave, said Patrick Doyle, deputy commander of the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force.

When local manufacturing labs – which produce only powdered meth – are numerous, the amount of ice seen in the area decreases, he said.
