Fire destroyed a large, two-story house in Lookout Valley late Friday, Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman Bruce Garner said in a news release.
Chattanooga firefighters were sent to 3853 Elder Gap Place shortly after 11 p.m., Garner said. Battalion Chief Rick Sewell said firefighters arrived to find the roof collapsed and most of the walls fallen in.
The house is isolated and most likely burned for a long time before a resident some distance away noticed the fire and called 911. No one was reportedly home at the time and no injuries were reported.
Capt. Joe Butler with Engine 20 said there was nothing left to save, so firefighters focused their efforts on containing the fire and keeping it from spreading to the nearby woods.
Lt. Henry McElvain with the Fire Investigation Division said the house has been up for sale for about a year. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
