St. Timothy’s Episcopal Preschool is hosting its first-ever Butterfly Brunch for ladies in the community Saturday, April 16 at 10:30 a.m.

“We were looking for something new and different to raise more money,” said Andrea Sarvis, parent and committee member.

In the past the preschool has organized smaller events such as chili suppers, which typically raise around $500, she said.

Sarvis said she previously chaired an event similar to the Butterfly Brunch at her daughter’s preschool in Dalton that raised approximately $15,000.

A $15 ticket enters attendees to win a variety of prizes including toys and football tickets, as well as brunch catered by Signal Mountain resident Charisse Varnell of Apron Strings.

Varnell is donating her services and all food served at the event, which will include fruit skewers, petite herb-roasted chicken salad croissants, tortellini skewers and vine-ripe tomatoes filled with fruit salad.

Each of the event’s 16 tables is decorated with a different theme chosen by its hostess. Hostesses include parents and church members who selected a wide variety of themes including collegiate, beach and butterfly.

A silent auction will feature items such as a weeklong beach vacation, a two-day trip to Washington, D.C., spa treatments and a party for 30 at Table 2. Three quarters of the businesses on the mountain as well as individuals from the community donated additional goods and services to be auctioned, she said.

“I think we’re going to have some wonderful items for a great cause,” said Sarvis. “Hopefully it will pan out to be a substantial amount of money raised.”

The planning committee’s goal is $5,000, which she said will be used for technology upgrades, playground supplies and classroom enrichment materials.

Sarvis said the committee had already sold 116 tickets for the event, half of which purchased by community members not affiliated with the preschool.
