Ringgold in showdown
The Region 7-AAA baseball title may well be decided today at Bill Womack Field when Cartersville (18-3, 17-1) faces Ringgold (19-1, 17-1) in a matchup of Georgia top-five teams. A Ringgold win would give the Tigers a game lead with three league games remaining against teams will losing records.
Cartersville, which defeated Ringgold 6-1 March 29, still has a game with eighth-ranked Allatoona (16-2 in 7-AAA) next week. Ringgold swept two games from the Buccaneers, while Allatoona defeated Cartersville earlier. A three-way tie with no clear head-to-head winner would be decided by total runs allowed.
“It’s a big-time matchup and we’ll have to play our best to get past the team that has won region titles I think 10 straight years,” Ringgoold coach Brent Tucker said. “But we’ve got a shot at home on a Friday night. You can’t ask for anything more and I hope all of Ringgold shows up. We need all the help we can get.”
