Dynamite Dozen: Keionta Davis ‘a freak’ at linebacker, end

Red Bank High School’s recent history of having football players who were largely overlooked until their senior year is likely to continue this season. Keionta Davis could join teammate Deres Benn Jr. as Lions who have shown their athletic ability at summer camps and can earn scholarship offers with solid senior seasons.

Davis had been on the radar for several college scouts but really noticed a spike in interest after turning heads with his versatility at the University of Tennessee’s linebacker and defensive linemen camps.

“I think going to both those camps helped show that I can play either position,” said the 6-foot-4, 220-pound Davis. “I feel comfortable at defensive end or linebacker, and hopefully college coaches have noticed that too.”

Davis is rated the area’s No. 9 college prospect in this year’s Times Free Press Dynamite Dozen, joining Lions teammate Benn, a safety rated 12th on the list.
