Red Bank police seek teen who shot friend

Red Bank police are looking for the teenager whom they believe fired the bullet that hit a 15-year-old early Sunday.

Red Bank Sgt. Dan Knight said Matthew Peckenpaugh was in stable condition after surgery at Erlanger hospital. The teen was shot in the face while playing with a gun outside his home early this morning.

Peckenpaugh and several of his friends were playing with the revolver outside his Lyndon Avenue home about 2:45 a.m. when the teen who brought the gun to the house fired the weapon, Knight said.

"It wasn't an accident ... it was recklessness," Knight said.

With a bloody face, Peckenpaugh went inside his home, where his grandfather called for an ambulance, he said.

Police are now looking for the teen, who wasn't named because he's a juvenile, and the gun, Knight said. The teen faces charges that span from felony reckless endangerment to aggravated assault.
