Use Fleischmann’s less-is-more tack
It’s nice to see that columnist David Cook has some inkling of the absurdity of the “Robin Hood” income cap idea (“Robin Hood goes to college,” Aug. 29), but he seems confused on another point.
Mr. Cook castigates Rep. Chuck Fleischmann for sponsoring only one bill in his time in Congress. But we don’t send representatives to Washington to sponsor bills. We send them there to protect our liberty and property. It’s the rare bill or law that serves that end. In fact, most congressional action tends to the erosion of our rights.
I don’t know what explains Rep. Fleischmann’s inactivity, but the country would be better off if more legislators took his less-is-more approach.

Brush pickup schedule spotty
A Chattanooga 311 question:
The other neighbors as well as I would like to know why did an oversize (to your restrictions 6 foot x 6 foot) green, just-cut brush pile get picked up Friday, while I have called twice for mine that has been out for two weeks or more.
Several other piles in sight are around this. Some I know also and probably all have called. Even one of my across-the-street neighbors has called about mine.
Dirty politics. Let us all know?

Show’s content not acceptable
Re: Senior Expo — Mature Apparently Meant More Than Senior! Vicki Lawrence — Two Woman Show:
I always have been a big fan of Vicki Lawrence and her performances on the Carol Burnett show. I jumped at the chance to see her new show — Vicki Lawrence-a Two Woman Show in Chattanooga, Tenn. To be honest with you, I could not have been more shocked at the vulgar language and jokes. The show was in conjunction with the Senior Expo. At 48, I was probably one of the youngest folks there. The off-color jokes and profanity came as quite a shock. Ms. Lawrence is so talented. It is just amazing that she would sink to this level of “entertainment.”
During the show, I noticed many people just picking up and leaving (some carrying their walkers). There were probably several Sunday school groups in attendance. Most of the audience were in their mid-’70s to ’80s, and the show’s content was more aligned to something you’d see in Vegas. As we left the show, my aunt and my friends heard multiple comments as to how ashamed they were of Ms. Lawrence’s performance.
Mama needs her mouth washed out.
