A heartbreaking ruse

We all know that laws have to be upheld if there is to be order rather than chaos in our nation.

But it was heartbreaking to read about an Ohio woman who was so desperate to get her children a decent education that she illegally enrolled them in a nearby school district for which they were not zoned. News accounts said she was convicted of lying about her residency so the children could go to a school that would give them a shot at a better life.

“I did this for them, so there it is. I did this for them,” the mother, Kelley Williams-Bolar, told ABC News.

For her well-intended but illegal act, she recently served a jail sentence. Now she faces three years of probation.

No one should condone the breaking of the law, even if the lawbreaker commits such an act for the worthy purpose of securing a better education for her children.
