Tennessee falling in line with GOP
During the election season of 2010, I was exposed to an overwhelming amount of campaign talk – too much to be understood or analyzed. I suspect that many, if not most of us in this area, were so inundated. I was surprised and dumbfounded to learn recently that there appears to be a state-by-state Republican program to deprive teachers and other public service workers of the right to bargain collectively with their employers.
Now with a Republican governor, and Republican-controlled Legislature, Tennessee apparently is going to fall into the lap of the national, hard-right, anti-union forces. Sadly, nothing but a public uprising of the sort that has just been seen in Egypt will accomplish anything until the next election season.

‘Makeover’ effort makes area proud
To everyone who worked to support every aspect of the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” project that resulted in that fantastic residence that the Sharrock family now calls home, thank you for making Chattanooga proud! Through your selfless and passionate commitment, you have changed one family’s circumstances forever. It was humbling to see each of you spend countless hours bringing to life what was thought an unrealistic dream for the Sharrock family.
The effort put forth from each volunteer (skilled or nonskilled) was inspirational as each one of you played a critical role in the success of this extremely, impressive undertaking.
The leadership from Craig and Jason of Vision Homes and their wives (Kelli and Emily) to each project lead manager, (some of whom voluntarily worked 40 hours straight to make sure everything was done right), was truly incredible. They put together a great team to lead this fantastic venture.
No matter what size role one got to play, the experience was nothing short of spectacular.
May God continue to bless each and every one of you, for this past week you all got to be angels for three wonderful people.

Does public art cause problems?
Hurrah for City Councilman Jack Benson’s concern about our ugly public statues that dangerously divert motorists’ attention away from safe driving, following too close, and cell phone conversations.
