Even with blue skies, beware of ice

Don’t let the blue skies fool you: Icy walkways are wreaking havoc on pedestrians today.

As of this afternoon, Erlanger hospital’s downtown emergency room is currently treating 16 patients for fall injuries related to icy conditions, according to spokeswoman Pat Charles. One patient is now undergoing orthopedic surgery, she said.

Other injuries treated in the ER today include sprains, strains, fractures and a head injury, according to an Erlanger release.

Parkridge Medical Center’s emergency room has treated more than five weather-related injuries, mostly slips, trips and falls, said spokeswoman Pat Holloway. Parkridge East has also seen several cases involving ankle, shoulder and wrist injuries from slips and fall, she said.
