An Israeli shark conspiracy?

Weird conspiracy theories blaming Israel or the Jewish people in general for practically everything that’s wrong with the world are nothing new – especially in Muslim-dominated nations.

But we must admit that an Egyptian official’s claim that Israel is behind a series of shark attacks in a tourist area on Egypt’s Red Sea coast is even more bizarre than the usual accusations.

The governor of South Sinai, Mohamed Abdul Fadil Shousha, told an Egyptian government-run news outlet that Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, may have placed the deadly shark in the area to harm the tourism industry in Egypt.

He said more time is needed to “confirm” that possibility.

Faced with that kind of irrationality, it is hard to see why Israel so often gets the blame for its tense relations with neighboring Arab countries.
