A Chattanooga woman was arrested and charged with child abuse, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after she forced her 14-year-old son out of her car during a frigid day, then yelled at an officer to search her privates during the course of her arrest.
Karen Y. Snider, 51, of 5111 Ooltewah-Ringgold Road, is scheduled to appear in Hamilton County General Sessions Court on Jan. 26 after she told police she wanted to file a missing persons report following a argument that she had with her son on Jan. 8, according to a Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
In the report, police noted that the weather was “extremely cold and windy” and the son was wearing only “a thin Ooltewah track suit.”
Police contacted Snider in the McDonald’s at 4829 Brainerd Road, where she told the arresting officer about her son, the report said. When Snider tried to leave the restaurant, the officer told her to stay until they learned more about her son, the report states.
She told the officer he would have to arrest her to make her stay and, when the officer tried to handcuff her, she put up a brief struggle before being subdued.
The officer took Snider to the parking lot, where he asked if she had anything dangerous or illegal on her, according to the report. She told him he’d have to search her, the report said, then put one leg on the hood of the police car, yelling for the officer to search her privates.
This attracted the attention of the McDonald’s patrons, the reports said, and she then threw herself onto the hood of the car “and started to shake her rear end” while yelling for the officer to search her privates.
The arresting officer placed her in the back of his patrol car and took her to jail.
